Buying Guides – How To Choose The Best Water Filter Pitchers?
NSF/ANSI Testing & Certifications
You should never just pick any product without checking if it has passed the NSF/ANSI testing and certifications because this is what you’d want to get in return. NSF stands for National Sanitation Foundation so they’re basically one of the main companies that would check your water filter pitcher before approving its use.
It’s always best to look at the certifications of a certain model than hoping for things not to go wrong after purchasing one. This way, you’ll be able to determine if the item could deliver on its promises or not but rest assured that there are also quite a lot of pitchers out there with a 100% satisfaction guarantee from their manufacturers.
There are pitchers out there that don’t include any filters so you’ll have to order them separately. This is actually one of the things that would make this product more expensive because you’d most likely need to buy new ones every now and then.
If you want something with long-term benefits, then it’s best that you check if the manufacturer includes replacement filters or not before deciding on purchasing one. You may not be able to tell how often do they need replacement but these things won’t last forever so prepare yourself for replacements in the future so they can still serve their purpose for as long as possible.
Another important aspect of buying a water filter pitcher is knowing exactly why you need it in the first place. There are several reasons to use one but most people would agree that it’s either for the sake of aesthetics or they wouldn’t want to drink tap water for health purposes.
Now, this thing should be able to filter out the big chunks of dirt and sediments that you encounter in your daily lives. If you want to drink safe water that’s free from harmful organisms like bacteria or viruses, then it’s best that you only rely on high-quality filters.
Anyone would expect that these things will be able to filter out contaminants in an instant without taking too much time. Unfortunately, you’d want to limit your expectations on this one because it is way more complicated than having no clue about how water works. Having the right knowledge on what they’re exactly getting themselves into would definitely give them a better chance of recognizing if they are making the right choice or not.
In most cases, the main components of a water filter pitcher would be made from either plastic or glass. They both have different benefits so it all comes down to what you’re expecting and hoping for in terms of durability and weight.
Glass material is known to be heavier but it’s more durable than its counterpart. Meanwhile, plastic variants are lightweight and they tend to break if not handled with care.
Jug Size (Water Storage Volume)
This is probably the simplest factor to consider because it won’t tell too much about any pitcher’s capability. They are classified into several sizes that can hold different volumes of water depending on their model. You’d want to pay attention to the markings so you won’t have problems pouring out water later after filling up the container.
If you’re looking for something that’s mobile-friendly, then it’s best that you pay attention to models that are made of lightweight materials. This way, they’ll be easier to move around the house without carrying too much trouble.
Water Filtering Capacity
Now, if you’re looking for something that can handle a large volume of water in a single go, then it’s best to check out models with oversized pitchers. They may come at a higher price but they are mostly good for households that have bigger families or they would want to save time from refilling the container over and over again.
Basically, this is the main priority of every buyer on the market. It’s very important for anyone to consider getting products that are made from BPA-free materials because it stays away from harmful chemicals.
There are some cheap variants being sold but they have an increased chance of exposing people to hazardous chemicals that can cause serious health problems later in life.
You may also want to alter your choices depending on whether you’re buying a high-quality filter or if it has other features worth paying for. Either way, all key factors must be carefully examined before making any decisions with your money.
There’s a high chance that you’ll find a product having at least 1 year of warranty coverage. This should be enough for anyone to get back their money if something goes wrong right after the purchase. If there are other things worth getting from this manufacturer, then it would be best to look into them first before finally making your decision.
In most cases, water filter pitchers have a simplistic design but some other models also come with fancy features that could be used for decoration purposes. You can expect several technical specifications depending on how much they’re willing to spend on each pitcher. It won’t hurt if you take note of these factors because it will give you a clearer view on what you’re going to buy in the future.
There are several brands out there having the same lifespan but they last longer depending on how often it’s being used by a certain household. If you’d want to get the most out of your purchase, then make sure that you find a model with a long-lasting filter. This way, it will allow families to save more money from refilling the container too much.
Ease Of Use
For most users, they only want a pitcher that can make their lives easier. It should be easy to use and clean in order for everyone in the home to take care of it properly. If you’re having a hard time getting used to something, then it’s best to go with another model that has simpler features.
Ease Of Cleaning
Like with any other household product, no one would want to deal with a water filter that’s just hard to clean. Make sure that you look into the instruction manual first so you can get familiarized with how it should be properly taken care of.
Most people think that cleanup is already done once they’re done pouring out the dirty contents from inside but there are some things left in between the lines and valves. It may take them several minutes until they figure out whether this product is worth keeping or simply throwing it away out of frustration.
It’s also important that water filters can remove or reduce several harmful pollutants from your drinking water. These things include bacteria, chemicals, chlorine, lead, asbestos, pesticide residue and many more contaminants in the water supply. The level of filtration will depend on how advanced each pitcher is so it better if you take note of these factors before working out a good budget plan for buying one.
Some water filter pitchers can leave something weird in between their batches but this is normal when they’re still new and used for the first time. Even though it doesn’t happen all the time, some people notice a distracting odor coming out from certain models. Most manufacturers do make sure that their products don’t smell like anything else but they need more tests in order for them to achieve it.
Replacement filters are always sold separately so you’ll have to spend extra money on top of your original purchase. It’s best to get a model that comes with an affordable filter replacement. When this happens, users won’t have any problems getting replacements after every few months or so.
I won’t go into the details of every brand out there but I will include a few names that might help you pick something from their line-up.
Brita, for example, is one of the leading water filter brands in today’s modern age. They produce a wide range of products that should suit any buyer’s preference depending on how much they’re willing to spend and where they want it to be used. If you take a look at some other options too, then you’d notice other big names such as PUR, ZeroWater or AquaHome among several others. With each product having its own advantages and disadvantages, make sure that you go through them first before making your final decision.
The least thing you should look at when buying a water filter pitcher is its price. There are products being sold for as low as $15 but also some other models entering around $40-$50 mark. You’ll know what fits your budget better if you take note of every other factors first before deciding on anything else.
What Are Water Filter Pitchers?
Water filter pitchers are one of the most popular types of water filters in the world. It is because they offer great convenience and ease when it comes to using. As their name suggests, these types of water filters are designed in a pitcher or jug-like shape so that they can easily fit on top of your fridge. As you may already know, refrigerators are often placed near sinks where the water source is also available, unlike filtering units which can be quite difficult to reach in some cases. Since this type of appliance does not need any installation at all, you can simply place them anywhere that you like in your home without worrying about wiring attachments or complicated parts to deal with.
Since there is nothing much involved in using a water filter pitcher, they are also the easiest to use. All you have to do is simply pour tap water inside, wait for a few minutes and you will notice that it has been filtered through the filter cartridge. When all of the unfiltered water has gone down into your pitcher, simply remove and replace a new filter cartridge.
How Do Water Filter Pitchers Work?
The best water filter pitchers are easy to use. All you have to do is fill the pitcher with tap water, and when ready for drinking, simply pour it into your glass or cup straight from the pitcher. The filtering cartridges in the filter work through gravity. As you slowly pour water through them, they act like sponges that absorb contaminants straight out of the water stream. Once all of the contaminants has been absorbed by the cartridge, only clean filtered water will be left inside your pitcher. Some units even feature an activated carbon filter that makes sure your drinking water is tastier without any funky odor coming out of it. These filters help remove bad tastes and odors caused by chlorine, limescale buildup in pipes, and other common contaminants that come out of your tap.
The design of all water filter pitchers is almost the same since they are meant for one-time use only. They feature a separate compartment inside with a removable easy to replace cartridge, and another main section for where you pour the water in. The top lid usually features an opening or spout for pouring, while most models also have measurement indicators helping you easily track how much water has filtered through so far.
Why Use A Filter Water Pitcher?
Water filter pitchers are an excellent choice for anyone who doesn’t want to spend money on bottled water, or simply can’t find a reliable source of safe drinking water. They are convenient and easy to use, portable, affordable, and best of all – they’re eco-friendly!
If you want clean tasting water without the hassle of using the faucet every time, then investing in a good quality Water Filter Pitcher will surely be worth your time. With it, you won’t have to worry about harmful contaminants that are present in most tap waters anymore!
Many brands offer free shipping if you decide to buy them online so this is also an advantage. Depending on where one lives, municipal tap water may contain varying levels of dissolved solids originating from the source water. These include things like sediments, rust particles, and other contaminants. Water filter pitchers effectively reduce or even eliminate these impurities that may be present in your tap water.
A lot of homeowners tap their own drinking water straight from the home faucet without taking time to consider if it will taste good or not. You can make your experience better by using a filter pitcher instead of buying bottled water every day.
Today, most drinkable liquids contain microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi that could cause serious diseases if ingested. When you drink unpurified tap water for long periods of time, you’re basically putting yourself at risk for any number of health problems down the road. Health experts recommend drinking purified waters at least once a day to help lessen your chance of getting sick.
If you want the best tasting water without having to buy expensive bottled waters, then using a filter pitcher is what you need. Indeed, these units do cost more than other types of filters but they are incredibly convenient and easy to use. They effectively remove foul odors and chlorine for better-tasting drinking water that is free from harmful chemicals. Most importantly, they can get rid of all kinds of impurities that could be present in your tap water. If you’re looking for healthy refreshments on the go, buying one today would definitely be worth it!
Which Water Filter Pitchers Remove The Most Contaminants?
The most important factor to consider before buying one is how much it can remove from your water. There are different types of contaminants such as chemicals, lead, copper, and so on. When shopping around for the best water filter pitcher, you should determine which contaminants you need to eliminate and then find a unit that can effectively eliminate these contaminants.
If you want to get rid of foul tasting tap water, then look for a filter pitcher that has activated charcoal. This type of filtration is the least expensive and removes contaminants such as chlorine, bad odors, and tastes from your tap. If you need something more efficient though, then it would be best that you use pitchers with basic carbon block filters instead. These units provide better tasting and cleaner water while removing common contaminants found in municipal tap water such as lead, nitrates, and heavy metals. On top of this, they’re also excellent at reducing levels of harmful chemicals like trihalomethanes (THMs) which are potentially cancer-causing compounds found in many public supplies.
Who Should You Be Using A Water Filter Pitcher?
Anyone with a home faucet can use a water filter pitcher. These types of filter pitchers are great for college students in dorms, apartment renters who don’t want to install a full-sized water filtration system, and anyone simply looking to drink clean tasting drinking water.
In most cases, the cartridge will only be used once unless you choose a brand that allows you to replace it multiple times. In these scenarios, manufacturer instructions must always be followed when changing cartridges in order to avoid leaks, spills, and other problems.
The good news is that there are tons of different choices available so if you prefer reading online product reviews before buying anything, then using the internet would sure make shopping easier.
Not everyone is willing or able to install a full sized water filtration system in their home, especially if they live in an apartment or rented house. For these reasons, most people are left with no choice but to drink unfiltered tap water.
When To Change A Water Pitcher Filter?
Water filter pitchers come with a replaceable filter cartridge. Some models even feature an indicator tap to let you know when it’s time for a replacement or change. As much as possible, make sure that you put your money on one of these units because they last longer than other types of filters. Before you purchase one though, make sure to check out the capacity first so that you’ll have enough water for drinking and cooking every day.
Far more important is changing your pitcher’s filter regularly to ensure that your water remains clean and safe at all times. Experts recommend replacing the old filter every 2-6 months depending on how contaminated your area’s tap water is. It can be especially useful if there are strong odors or strong chlorine smell coming from your water. If you can’t tell when it’s time for a replacement, then look for an indicator tap or simply check the manufacturer’s recommendations because their purpose is to help users conserve water.
Far more important than the actual change interval is ensuring that you replace your filter at regular intervals so as not to let contaminants build up in your water supply. Make sure that you don’t overlook this step – bad tasting or smelling drinking water can definitely be harmful!
Changing a water pitcher filter will help you to maintain the quality of your drinking water and avoid potential health problems down the road. One easy way to do this is by checking the manufacturer’s directions for use. Most manufacturers recommend that you change or replace certain parts of their products after a specific amount of time has passed, so following those guidelines would be very helpful. It’s also important to remember that Water Filter Pitchers can only filter small amounts of contaminated water at a time, so don’t expect one unit to last a lifetime.
How To Change The Filter Cartridge?
To change your water pitcher filter, you’ll need:
– The old cartridge (s)
– A replacement cartridge (s)
– The tools and supplies necessary to take apart and reassemble the unit.
The best way to get started is by filling up the pitcher with cool tap water. This will help prevent spilling when you remove the pitcher’s lid.
Next, place a towel on top of the counter before disassembling the unit so that it can soak up any residual water. You can then fill another container with cold tap water for later use. If there are kids around, make sure that they’re out of sight or at least out of earshot because this step is quite noisy.
Start by removing the pitcher’s lid so that you can access the filter cartridge. Some models even have indicator taps to let you know when it is time for a replacement. You can throw away the old cartridge and its housing or keep it if your local municipality recycles these materials.
Then, remove another cover or a small cup on the side of the pitcher to get a better view of the filter chamber. Once again, soak up some water from your extra container and pour some into this space through a funnel while keeping one hand on top of the opening to prevent any leaks. If you don’t want to hold open the opening at all times, make sure that you use a towel or something similar to put around the pitcher’s neck.
Afterward, replace both covers, reassemble your pitcher, then check the water to make sure that it has been filtered. The best way to do this is by using a clean glass or cup.
To take better care of your water filter pitcher, consider thoroughly rinsing its insides after every change. This helps prevent any accidents from happening during the replacement process. It will also lengthen its lifespan significantly because leftover materials can quickly accumulate inside. With enough practice, you’ll be able to change the unit’s filter cartridge within 5 minutes or less without even breaking a single sweat!
How To Clean A Water Filter Pitcher?
The first thing to do is take your water filter pitcher and place it on the counter so you have some free space. Next, remove a new cartridge from its protective sleeve and put it aside. Take a large bowl or pan and fill it with warm tap water before pouring everything into the top of the pitcher.
Afterward, start gently shaking your unit from side to side to help break up any residue that might be stuck within the cartridge’s cloth mesh. Place a small cup into the pitcher’s filtering chamber. Then, pour more water through this small opening into another container. Finally, replace all covers and reassemble your pitcher after cleaning the insides by rinsing them with clean filtered water.
If you don’t want to go through all this trouble, you can always pour the old water into an empty bucket before throwing your filter cartridge away. Finally, you should refill the unit with clean tap water before reassembling it and putting the pitcher back in its designated spot.
Whenever possible, just replace a used filter cartridge instead of cleaning it to help prolong its lifespan since reusable ones tend to break down faster due to heavy use. All Water Filter Pitchers recommend that their customers never try and force cartridges to fit if they don’t seem to fit properly.
Do Water Filter Pitchers Remove Bacteria?
Yes. Most water filter pitchers come with filters that remove both bacteria and protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. These micro-organisms can survive in water for days, especially in municipal sources which means you’ll get them even if filtered tap water has been boiling or chlorinated.
The only thing is that some models don’t have this feature so always check your unit’s tag to see if it does before buying one. If you need something better though, then we suggest getting either a reverse osmosis pitcher or a countertop model instead because they’re the best choices when it comes to removing various types of bacteria from your tap water. Just make sure not to add ice cubes into the container when filtering since they may affect the seal and thus change its overall performance.
Do Alkaline Water Pitchers Work?
Yes it does, but not very well. It uses an ion exchange to convert the acidic tap or river water into an alkaline one. The only downside to this type of filtration is that it reduces hydration levels slightly because when you pull out hard water (which is actually alkaline), water loss occurs.
These kinds of filters work in a similar way like others do – by getting rid of contaminants and producing safe drinking water. However, they also add minerals to your water which makes it much healthier. For instance, if compared to tap water, filtered bottled mineral waters tend to contain 7x higher concentrations of vital electrolytes like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Remember though that these types of products are usually more expensive than regular ones so you need to take this into consideration.
Which Water Filter Pitcher Removes Lead?
If you own a Brita or Pur water filtration pitcher, then you’re in luck. Both these units are excellent at removing common contaminants such as chlorine and THMs while also providing clean drinking water. Even though they remove lead to some level too, the amount is very low and should not exceed current EPA and FDA standards.
Unfortunately, if you want a pitcher that removes lead completely from the water you drink on a daily basis, then it’s best for you to invest in an under sink one. These devices do a much better job at removing lead and other harmful elements.
Water Filter Pitcher Vs Faucet Filter: What’s Better?
As you may know, there are two main types of water filtration systems available in the market today: faucet-mounted filter and water filter pitcher. Both have their pros and cons, varying levels of effectiveness in terms of contaminant removal, their prices, ease of maintenance and cleaning.
Faucet filters are installed right inside the kitchen sink so when you turn on your tap to fill up a glass or cook food using water from the tap, they’ll immediately start filtering it for you. They’re pretty simple to use too with an initial setup that takes just about 10 minutes tops. But what’s best with this kind of filter is that it will provide safe drinking water for anyone present inside your house including pets which means you don’t need to have different containers for your pets.
Water filter pitchers for this type are usually much cheaper compared to pitcher ones at around $20 -$30 each time you need to change them. However, they don’t come with an in-unit indicator that tells you when it needs replacement so you won’t really know when the filter lifetime has ended. As a result, it’s always best to use water right after it’s filtered since there could be stuff inside the filter left over from past uses. That definitely won’t make any difference especially if it hasn’t been used for days or weeks but still, better safe than sorry.
On the other hand, water filter pitchers are great if you’re only looking for something simple and convenient that doesn’t require installation or technical know-how just to get it running. It takes only minutes and you’re good to go. To boot, changing the water filter pitcher is a breeze and you can do it right inside your own kitchen sink so there’s not much of a mess involved, unlike other types where you’ll need to bring the whole pitcher somewhere else for replacement purposes. However, these things also come at a price as they tend to be more expensive compared to faucet filters despite their ease of use and maintainability. But if you ask us, we’d definitely pick water filter pitchers over faucet filters because our pets deserve fresh and clean water too even though we don’t see them drink that often.
Water Filter Pitcher Vs Bottled Water: Which One Should You Pick?
If it’s your first time drinking water from a water filter pitcher, you might think that this is much more expensive than drinking straight from the tap. However, when you take into consideration all the expenses you’ll have in buying bottled water for years, actually decades, it actually makes using a filter an extremely good investment. It just takes longer before it pays off but overall, all of your money will be used only once and then that’s the end of expenses for drinks forever.
Bottled water is convenient because it doesn’t need installation or extensive knowledge about water filter pitchers nor does it require replacement often which means less maintenance on your part plus cheaper long-term costs. But if there are no alternatives available to you at home or any stores nearby where you can easily purchase bottled water, then it’s time to get yourself a filter.
However, keep in mind that you cannot just attach the faucet directly on your bottle of filtered water since it doesn’t fit. The best way to do so is by using an inline water filter pitcher which will let you dispense hot or cold drinking water on demand 24/7 without having to worry about storage space for gallons of water at home. This saves you money because all of your drinkable desires can be fulfilled without getting another filter pitcher with the unnecessary hassle.
Are Water Filter Pitchers Worth It?
If you’re planning to solve your drinking water problem once and for all, then the question below should be answered with a yes. It can be quite disappointing when it comes to buying things only to realize that they don’t deliver as promised but if you choose the right one, there’s nothing greater than bringing your own drinking water straight from the kitchen faucet.
Water filter pitchers are one of the best ways to get filtered water on your own without having to worry about its freshness and cleanliness which you can’t really take for granted with some brands or vendors.
Although there are that many types available, they’re worth every penny since it’s actually pretty convenient and easy to use even if you put zero effort into learning how it all works. Bottled water is just too costly especially if you’re drinking enough of it over a period of time so investing in a good product is always a great choice when alternatives are unavailable. In fact, most people prefer this kind of pitcher instead because it provides better quality compared to what most branded bottles have to offer. Just make sure you avoid using tap water to have sources of fresh, healthy, or filtered water.
What Do Water Filter Pitchers Remove?
When you use a water filter pitcher, there are lots of things that it removes from your tap water. Generally speaking, the best pitcher filters will reduce certain contaminants found in your drinking water such as rust and chlorine taste and odor. The good thing is that these types don’t require the use of harmful chemicals or any replacement parts so they’re definitely safe to use at home without causing too much hassle.
If you have pets at home who drink from your faucet as well, then you know how important it is for them to have something really clean and purified which this type can provide unlike other filtered sources. In general, all of those unwanted junk found in drinking water won’t be visible anymore when they come out of the faucet.
Even though there are many brands that offer this type of pitcher filter, you have to keep in mind that they’re not really mechanisms for purifying your water. This means that minor ground minerals are still allowed because these aren’t considered contaminants.
How Often Do You Need To Replace The Water Filter In Your Pitcher?
Most water filter pitchers need to be replaced after several months or even years. You can easily determine when you should replace it based on the frequency of usage and how often you change the tap water.
If you live in an area where contaminated drinking water isn’t really a problem like if your living place is near a spring for example, then using this type of pitcher is sufficient enough to give you great tasting drinks. This will not only keep your family healthier but also save more money that could’ve been spent on other bottles.
This tool can purify up to 100 gallons of tap water before its capacity runs out which means that you’ll never run out of clean drinks because it’s already ready at home.
What Happens If You Don’t Change Your Filter Regularly?
This is one of the most common problems when it comes to using water filter pitchers and it could mean a lot especially if you don’t keep track of how often you need to replace your filters. It doesn’t matter whether you like drinking water or taking baths, this thing should never be taken for granted.
What happens when the filter in your pitcher fails after months or even years? Well, none of us can accurately predict that so let’s expect the worst case scenario such as having zero clean drinking water in your kitchen faucet. Now that no one would want such an idea, we all have to consider bringing home another source with higher purification power than any standard type.
Are There Downsides To Filter Pitchers?
Although water filter pitchers are a really good way to solve your drinking water problem, the sad thing is that they will not remove everything from your tap water. You have to bear in mind that they’re just filters which means that most things found in the source cannot be totally eliminated.
Major contaminants like lead and arsenic can be removed by this type of system but if you’re looking for something with more firepower, then an under sink system would definitely be better. Still, they’re very convenient especially when you consider all of their advantages over bottled filtered sources which make them worth every penny. A little patience won’t hurt either because compared with other types of water filters, pitcher ones do require some time before each use.
How Long Do Water Filter Pitchers Last?
Well, this would depend on the type of materials used for it as well as how frequently you use it. It’s only normal that these things wear and tear with extensive usage so expect them to become useless after a couple of months or even before depending on your needs.
Can I Use Any Filters In My Water Filter Pitcher?
Water filter pitchers are designed to support specific types of filters since these need a certain amount of space to function properly. If you use a wrong type, then you’ll end up wasting them and your money too because the source might not be as clean as it’s supposed to be.
In general, water filter pitchers can only accept those that have been specifically designed for their kind so doing anything else might just ruin the whole thing within just a few days or weeks. Just remember that there isn’t any universal filter that would work for all types of pitcher filters even if they have the same dimensions.
How Long Can I Store Water In My Filter Pitcher?
The short answer to this question is that it all depends on the water purification system you choose. Most bottles would last for about a week or two depending on how often you use them and if it has been properly maintained at all times.
If you’re using one that uses filters, then they can pretty much function for as long as the filter itself lasts. This means they’d most likely carry more than enough water unless you’re really paranoid. Remember that these things will start to lose their effects after three months of continuous usage so they’d most likely need to be replaced with new ones.
Are Pitcher Filters Recyclable?
Filter pitchers are not recyclable and this means you’ll have to throw them in the trash when they get old. Most people would think that it’s a huge waste of space and money to just throw them away but you should be aware that this is actually better than recycling because they’re made out of sturdy plastic which would become hazardous for the environment if spared.
